  3. Visualize Your Sanctuary: Imagine a place where you feel completely at ease. This could be a real place you’ve visited or a fantasy landscape. The key is that it should represent the ultimate relaxation for you. Picture it in as much detail as possible: the sights, the sounds, the smells, the textures. 

  4. Engage All Your Senses: Enhance your experience by engaging all your senses. Hear the waves crashing against the shore if you’re by the ocean, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, smell the fresh salt air, taste the freshness of the cool breeze, and see the vibrant colors of your surroundings.

  5. Deepen Your Journey: Allow yourself to explore this place. Walk around in your imagined environment. Notice how calm you feel here, how safe and relaxed. Every breath should take you deeper into a state of peace.

  6. Use Guiding Affirmations: Introduce affirmations that bolster the imagery. For instance, you might say to yourself, "With every breath, I feel more relaxed," or "This peace is within me."

  1. When I practice guided imagery myself, I use a playlist of instrumental music and that helps me to go into these visualizations more easily.
  2. It's not always easy to "see" what you are attempting to visualize, so begin where you are. If you are more attuned to sound, for instance, then start by hearing the place. You can do the same with smell or touch, or simply with feeling.
  3. With practice, your visualizations and imagery will grow clearer and more detailed, so don't give up. It's like a muscle you have to build to get stronger. It will! I promise.
